Les Amis

As many of you may know, Downtown Fullerton is known for their many hidden restaurants. And I don't know about you, but I love trying new things! I really need to try out more ethnic food. It really is interesting how each culture plays with different ingredients, and it's like you've never tasted such flavors before!

Anyway, Tricia and I went to Les Amis a Lebanese restaurant hidden in a parking lot off of Amerige. They have a beautiful front yard. The blooming flowers planted in the front and the plenty of seating area completes the elaborate decoration they have inside. The walls, which is probably my favorite part of this restaurant cuz it reminds me of my own room, is painted in mustard yellow and orchard purple accented by gold picture frames, lamps, candles. It's really intimate inside and each table is unique, so there is always something new to look at. They even have tons of books to read. OH! and they sell Hookah! It's a pretty cool restaurant. I encourage you to come here just to hang out or even have a full dinner.

For starters, they gave us hummus and pita chips, and we finally ordered a salad, good to share with another person, called Fattoush. It is a medley of vegetables, baked pita, mint parsley, tossed in fresh lemon juice, olive oil and summac)

For the main course we both ordered a mini Falafel. (Deep fried fava and garbanzo bean mix, flavored with herbs and spice, served with a medley of vegetables and homemade taratour). Who would have ever thought bean curd tasted so good? ahahah

The Pint House

I've been doing a wonderful job at procrastinating this semester, and lately I've been writing my paper until the hour before my class starts! it's definitely not worth losing sleep for. Anyway, after long and arduous hours of working on my 10 page term paper, I decided to treat myself to an somewhat expensive meal. I went to The Pint House in Downtown Fullerton with Tricia, and we bought ourselves a glass of beer and a gorgeous Portobello sandwich.

What's up with my obsession with veggie burgers/sandwiches? I don't know it gives me a different kind of satisfaction in my tummy. It's light, but so rich in flavor, especially the one they make at The PInt House. The portobello was grilled to perfection. You can actually taste the mushroom. Usually the balsamic on veggie sandwiches overpower the taste, but this one had a right amount of everything! But I am guessing the mountain of feta cheese probably did it for me. ahah

Our sandwich was paired with a side salad with bleu dressing. Altogether, the sandwich and beer, was a hearty meal for $16.

The Village Grill

I went to Claremont with Ryan and Israel on Saturday. We wanted to try out this diner called The Village Grill off of Yale and Indian Hill. It's a a very small, quiet diner, and we were excited until the waitress talked to us. They seem to be in a bad mood over there, all of them. They had no smiles on their faces when they greeted their guests and they charged extra ranch for .50 cents for all of us! I didn't even ask for the ranch. Bah! But anyway the food was good. Good portions for a reasonable price. Each sandwich was about $8.

Roscoe's

Last Friday, the gang and I went to Max Bloom's Cafe Noir at Downtown Fullerton to watch Israel's cousin do stand up comedy. It was a really fun night: full of laughter and awkwardness! We wanted to show his cousin a good time, so we took Iz's cousin to Roscoe's! NO and it's not Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. This is a totally different scene, a restaurant all day and a bar at night. Iz and I were hungry and bought ourselves some gigantic sandwiches! Good quality meat. I couldn't get the pastrami because of Lent, but their pastrami is sooooooooo delicious. It sh*ts on all the other pastrami sandwiches I've ever eaten. Sandwich meal comes with a side order or pasta salad, macaroni salad, or potato salad. About $10. I say, NOT BAD AT ALL. Totally worth eating at this spot.

After eating, drinking, and dancing, Iz and I took on a little adventure and lit up some rockets at the top level of the TSU structure of our school. :) Got scared because the police came, but he ended lighting one up himself :). Twas a very good night.

The SAUSAGE

My friends and I decided to have a little bbq at Amanda's apartment to celebrate the end of our eventful Spring Break. We grilled up some Italian sausage, wrapped it in bacon, and topped it off with grilled onions and red bell peppers. We paired it with jalepeno potato chips and drank the night away. We were so full and satisfied we took a 2 hour nap! ahah The sausage was delicious! But we made the mistake of prepping the sausage with the bacon wrapped already, so the bacon was burnt. SO next time, everybody, remember: cook the sausage for a little bit, then wrap the bacon, and finish grilling. Anyway, it was really good!

Spring Break 2011: San Diego

The best thing about traveling is visiting and trying out the well known restaurants locals rave about! Every city has their popular hidden treasures. When some of my college friends and I went to San Diego, we hit up 2 restaurants that both are known to serve quality food for a really good price.

Rubicon Deli: famous for their sandwiches. They make sandwiches that have unique ingredient combinations. For a whole sandwich it's about 8 dollars but I say it's totally worth it because of the HUUGGEEE portions they give you. Even eating half is already fulfilling.

We can't be in San Diego and NOT try to find the best MEXICAN restaurant! I have some friends who live down there, and we told them we wanted to eat the ultimate best california burrito. My friend Adrianne lead us to Luche Libre. The huge burrito was around 5 dollars. You get chips on the side and they have a huge selection of salsa. The restaurant screamed NACHO LIBRE to me. It was hot pink everywhere with gold accents and tons of pictures of luchadors and their infamous masks. But back to the food: the california burrito was to die for. The meat was cooked really well, tender and juicy. The next time you go down to SD, you definitely need to hit this place up

Happy 4 Months: Swordfish and Spaghetti Citrus Pesto

on March 24th, Iz and I acknowledged our 4 months of being together. It doesn't seem like a long time, but we have definitely learned a lot about each other these past 4 months in addition to being him being one of my best friends before. I wanted to do something special for him, so I decided to cook him dinner! I wanted to cook something I knew I wouldn't burn, so I stayed away from grilling steak or pork. I looked through my Giada Everyday Pasta cookbook, and bumped into this recipe: Swordfish and Spaghetti CitrusPesto.

I had a few problems, but nonetheless it was very light and flavorful meal. The swordfish was cooked to perfection! The meat was so soft and fluffy. I had a few problems making the pesto though! The blender was not working properly, some of the ingredients were not grind or chopped. I served the spaghetti shortly right after I had added the pesto into the bowl of spaghetti, but that was probably a mistake, because it was still bland. I should have let it marinade for a little bit before serving. Oh well! the spaghetti was a good snack later on though :)

The picture probably does not look so appealing but taste wise, it was pretty good! Try it out, it's simple and easy to make.

The rest of our night was relaxing We slow danced in the living room to "For the Love of You" by the Isley Brothers and finished it off with eating his favorite: strawberry ice cream. :)

Guppy Tea House

Life would be insane if I didn't have these girls. My Fatima girls and I have known each other since we were 5 years old, and for 16 years (and counting) they have been my best friends, sisters, soul mates. We've watched each other grow, been through good and some bad times, and supported each other endlessly. A few weeks ago, Trixie's grandpa had passed away. It had been a while since we have all been together, but we were all able to attend her grandpa's funeral. After the reception at Ten Ten, we went to Guppy Teahouse in Cerritos.

We caught up on each other's lives over some Brick Toast and Shaved Iced. The brick toast was warm and comforting. We had coconut and chocolate brick toasts served with a side of strawberries and ice cream. The "small" sized shaved ice was enough to feed the five of us and then some. It was topped off with banana, mango, and strawberry and drizzled with condensed milk. :) Enjoy salivating over the pictures
